Basketball Quadratics - Graphing quadratic functions using the path of a basketball
The basketball lesson was a one day, all or nothing, type of lesson. I showed the video, got the classes excited, and we dove right into setting up the problem. Not every student had the right answer, but every student came up with something that we could work with.
Rubik's Cube - Polynomial multiplication using a Rubik's Cube rendition of Albert Einstein
Instead of going through a basic area model, and certainly not FOIL, I showed the students a video of a Rubik's Cube artwork. From there, we built a hypothetical frame around it. It was awesome.
Choose Your Own Assessment - A way for students to prove their mastery of triangle congruence theorems
Quite possibly one of the most beneficial things I've ever done as a teacher. Students told me how they were going to present their level of mastery and they did. Some were incredible, some were the opposite of that, but all showed me something. I couldn't have been happier with the vast majority of products.
