Flip Files
Becoming a great fisherman is a lot of hard work. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who offer tips, tricks, and resources that you can use to gain an edge. Please feel free to use the materials below as you see fit for your classroom. I teach 8th grade Algebra 1 and have taught a basic 8th grade math class as well, so why not post all of the video tutorials online?! This is the collection of materials that I have created to this point, so check back often as I add to the collection.
Preparing for a flip
Just like any good lesson, preparation is everything. Learning to flip your classroom is a process that involved solid pacing and research. The only difference is that you are teaching to an empty room, not knowing when students will have questions. Some tips for preparing to flip your classroom:
- Search the other websites that are designed for a flipped classroom
- Solve all problems or work through the solutions for every problem or scenario you are presenting
- Build in think time. It's awkward to have dead time on video, but it's important
- Realize that your students are going to have questions. Think about what those questions might be and try to clarify as much as possible
- Complete your flip in one take. When you're in the classroom, you get one shot at a good lesson. No editing, photoshop, or enhancements - just you
Styles of a flipped classroom
- Screencasting
- Video camera recording you in front of your standard teaching interface (whiteboard, chalkboard, etc)
- Hybrid model (partly flipped, partly classroom-oriented)
- Multimedia integrated into flip
- Movie style (with editing and screenshots)
Resources to flip

Another 4, just because 5 simply isn't enough!
Posting and sharing your flip (and searching for others)
Now that your flipped classroom has a video or two to present to your students (or whatever audience you intend to reach), it is time to post and share your materials. Here are my top 5 apps that can help you post your content to the internet, either cloud-based or stored on a channel:
